Desensitization Therapy – Comments by: Luke M. Webb, MD

 In Asthma, Blog

“The below article discusses the outcome of a large analysis of the most reliable data evaluating children with asthma undergoing desensitization therapy. These children did allergy shots or allergy drops to desensitize them to their allergic triggers, and it reduced the amount of medication they had to take long-term to control their asthma compared to children that did not do allergy shots. This is the only known therapy to decrease long-term asthma medication use such as oral and inhaled steroids in children with asthma. While medications are critical to help control asthma and allergies, we also need to make every effort to prevent asthma or change the natural course of asthma in children”
