Asthma and other lung diseases are underlying conditions that carry a higher risk for serious complications from COVID-19.
COVID-19 can cause a pneumonia-like lung infection, with a range of symptoms from mild or absent in some to life-threatening in others, according to the American Lung Association.

People with chronic lung diseases such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as lung cancer patients need to use extra caution to avoid contact with the virus and to keep taking their maintenance medications and be in contact with their health care provider about any symptoms or changes in their health.
All the safety measures that the CDC has outlined are crucial for people with these conditions, i.e. handwashing, face masks and social distancing.
Smokers and those that vape are also at increased risk of serious COVID-19 complications.
