First and foremost, congratulations to the Cheyenne Mountain High School Boys Soccer Team for taking home the class 4A State Champion Title this past weekend! All of us at Asthma and Allergy Associates extend our congrats to all the boys on the team! AWESOME JOB!
Along with winning the state title, another cool aspect to this accomplishment is the truth behind asthma, allergies, sinus issues and athletes. This announcement just further proves how amazing all the asthma specialists and allergist at Asthma and Allergy Associates in Colorado Springs are and how their knowledge and expertise can help treat almost all cases of asthma and allergies. One case in particular included one of the Cheyenne Mountain High School soccer teammates, Doug Quirk. “Doug Quirk is a kid I saw 2-3 weeks ago. His mother begged us to overbook him in our schedule. They had been to their main doctor 3 times over 1-2 months and gotten nowhere. He was severely fatigued, congested and miserable,” said Dr. Daniel Soteres who actually saw Doug at the AACOS offices.
Dr. Soteres informed us that, “His soccer team was closing in on the state soccer championship rounds. He was too tired to practice and having trouble at school. His mom brought him to me and wanted my opinion. I did a standard evaluation and found that he had a sinus infection.” Doug’s treatment plan for his sinus infection symptoms came directly from Dr. Soteres and proved to help beat the miserable issues this high school soccer player was having that effected his everyday life, including his beloved sport: soccer.
“We put him on antibiotics. By day 2 of the medicine he was feeling good and back at practice…..2-3 weeks later I got these texts from his mom:”
‘It was such a TEAM effort,’ texted Doug’s mom.
‘I’m proud to be part of the team,’ said Dr. Soteres.
‘You figured it out and others didn’t; he was miserable…you and your team are terrific,’ exclaimed Doug’s mom.
As you can see, visiting the correct doctor for your specific medical issues gives you a better chance of beating your symptoms with a more educated treatment plan. Although Doug didn’t necessarily have asthma or allergies that he knew of, locating a sinus expert was the right move for him. Dr. Soteres of AACOS was able to diagnose him, provide him with symptom relief, a treatment plan and ultimately enough clarity to get back out on the soccer field in a healthy state to win a huge championship.
