I couldn’t agree more with the core message of this CNN article. If you or someone you love suffers with asthma then get to a specialist! However, pulmonologists are not the ONLY asthma specialists. Board certified allergy/immunologists cover extensive additional training for asthma care. Where pulmonologists might be meeting and caring for asthma patients who have been hospitalized the allergy doctor takes great pride in keeping patients OUT of the emergency rooms, hospital beds and ICU’s.
Meeting With An Asthma Specialist Can Help:
- Reduce sick days and lost work or school days
- Develop a long term asthma management plan
- Reduce the number of emergency or urgent care visits
- Meeting with an allergist can help identify a root cause or trigger for asthma symptoms. Identifying and managing asthma triggers can reduce the need for long term medications.
In some pediatric cases allergy shots (immunotherapy) has been shown to reduce the risk of developing asthma and it has helped improve asthma control.
At Asthma and Allergy Associates, PC and Research Center we take the role of continuing education and learning seriously.
