Food Allergy Awareness Week is 5/13-19, a time totake note of the 15 million Americans with food allergies. To kick off this educational week, the Empire State Building will be lit in a teal color on 5/13.
Some Food Allergy Statistics Are As Follows:
- One is 13 children has food allergies, that’s 2 children in every US classroom. (An important part to the education of Food Allergies is for other children in the classroom to be aware and sensitive to this issue.)
- Eight foods account for the majority of reactions: eggs, milk, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish, and shellfish.
- There was a 50% increase in the prevalence of children with food allergies from 1997-2011.
FARE, Food Allergy Research and Education, which works on behalf of the millions of Americans who have food allergies reports today that there is a shortage of EpiPen, so this year’s Food Allergy Awareness week is more important than ever.
